[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This one is for Bente and I call this gal "Miss Superiority". While all the other youngsters (probably male) were stalking my vehicle she was just watching me closely . When the others gave up, she simply walked to the car and gave it a good sniff and walked away – Probably not smart enough for her to drive!

Lion cubs resemble newborn kittens in many ways. They are born with their eyes sealed shut and are basically helpless for several weeks after birth. For this reason, they are usually kept hidden from the pride until they are able to better fend for themselves.

Lions are truly unique among the great cats. They actually thrive better in zoos than in the wild! More than 80% of all lion cubs born die within their first two years. Most of these deaths result from starvation (mom only has the equipment to feed four - and litters are often five or six). Other major contributors are disease and predation.

Another danger is faced if there is a change in dominant males in the pride. The new male will often kill the cubs in order to replace them with his own.

In zoos, lions generally fare so well that it is necessary to take steps in order to keep them from breeding too much!

Just essence of beauty! Great pose, face and eyes. I love this shot Japie!

Wow Japie, wonderful portrait of this lioness. She is probably fed up with the boys silly antics and just wants to cruise for the day, so she kicked back and just watched. She looks very relaxed. Nice post. TFS

She's lovely Japie. Looks like my cat. She can't be made to do anything she doesn't want to do. I love the look on her face. Good shot here. TFS...

LOVE the eye contact you have with this haughty young woman. This is a superior portrait, Japie, and what makes it so very special to me aside from the technicals being perfect is the "connection" you captured between you and your subject. Excellent job.

Japie, Very good title for this classic shot. She does have a "superior" attitude that radiates from the eyes and is unmistakable! Really like this one!!!

Japie, agteros kom ook in die kraal. Die mense het net klaar sy sęgoed gebruik!

I have to agree with the critiques you have recieved. Thecnically perfect but what seperates this from being just another lion shot is that eye contact you made. Such a nice POV.

Sy lyk omtrent soos 'n meerderwaardige (of is dit vervelige?)tiener. Frontal (facial) shots of lions always tell some story. They are my favourite cats for this very reason as in their eyes there is always reflected some mood. As I have come to know you through your postings on TN during my short activity here, phographically speaking also good quality and detail.
