[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
It was 1913 and great stretches of Africa were still unknown to the white man when Stewart Edward White, an American hunter, set out from Nairobi. Pushing south, he recorded: "We walked for miles over burnt out country... Then I saw the green trees of the river, walked two miles more and found myself in paradise."
He had found Serengeti. In the years since White's excursion under "the high noble arc of the cloudless African sky," Serengeti has come to symbolize paradise to many of us. The Maasai, who had grazed their cattle on the vast grassy plains for millennia had always thought so. To them it was Siringitu - "the place where the land moves on forever." |

Hi Geof,
Wow, what a scene, such an expanse. This really puts the Giraffe into scale with his environment, something we don't often see. Beautiful colours, the sky is fantastic. Interesting note too, the Native Americans also believed that their land was paradise and endless. Great shot.
Have a good weekend
Adrian
Hi Geof,
What a pitty that the original photo had so many damaged spots. But besides that, I like the photo with good strong colors and a beautiful scenery. The wideness is just amazing.
TFS,
Niek
Hello Geof!
This is one lovely landscape. The use of the filter makes the sky unbelievably blue and the clouds so contrasty against it. The animals stretched across the frame at the same level look just terrific put against the distant mountains. Congratulations,
Mark
