The Bald Eagle, Haliaeetus Leucocephalus.
This Eagle was captured at a rehabilitation center in Milton Ontario, Canada. He/She has a major break in the wing. He sure looked sore at the time I captured the shot. There are many raptors at this place injured. I managed to get the 100-300mm with a hoya 55mm UV filter. The 55mm zoom was placed in the hole of the fence in order to take the shot. A portrait was best to take as I didn't want to show the wing splint that was applied. These birds have a large wing span of 6-8 feet across. This Eagle is over 5 years old. The white head is a sign of maturity. The immature bald eagles are often mistaken as the Golden Eagle.
This post was a request by Callie a while back. He gave me a nickname, "Mr. Eagle Eye."
Hope you like this one.
Taken with the Canon EOS Elan SLR, not a digital, with a 100-300mm zoom lens in the early 90's. I cannot remember the technical deta.
Photo retaken using the Fuji S5000 in macro mode. I donot have a scanner or able to get to a center to get the film converted to disc. Post processing was done using photoshop elements.

What a handsome bird! And very nicely captured on film! His expression is wonderful, he looks a bit ticked off! Thanks!

Well Mr Eagle eye, you certainly deserve your title with this one. Great shot, and from a printed photo, it is more than beautiful. Good Post processing too. I like everything about it.

Yes, he does look grumpy... ouch. Very nice head-shot, with nice detail and contrast, especially since it's a photo of a photo! Frame stroke, matching his beak, adds a nice finishing touch. Well done! -Jenn

Looks in a bad mood today. I guess that's what makes a mugshot (english is not my mother tongue). Anyway, if you have to explain ignorant people what an eagle is, that's the best illustration. Eagle eye, eagle hooked beak. It's the quintessence of the raptor! Beautiful colors. A real high class portrait.

What a good portrait of this magnificent bird. You should be proud of your nick-name Mike. Good details. TFS.

Great shot Mike. I've seen you use this technique before but these results are the best so far I think. Well done!

Mike, your shot is outstanding. IMO, what makes the bird stunning is the almost uniform black background, which works almost like if there were an artifical backdrop behind. Congratulations!

This is truly wonderful. The composition is excellent. Definitely did this magnificant bird proud by not showing his broken wing. You'd never know.
You also did an excellent job of digitalizing this from a print with a digital camera. The shot has a slight grainy texture, which I thinks adds to the mood of the image.
Well done indeed!

Classic portrait of this Bald Eagle. Very nice detailed shot, with great colors and lighting!

The subject is impressing, nicely shown over the dark background. Thanks Mike.
