[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the Black or Yunnan Snub-nosed Monkey (Pygathrix bieti).

It is found in the high cold mountain evergreen forests of fir, spruce and Rhododendron trees in southwestern China and Tibet. It lives in the trees and feeds on leaves (particularly bamboo) and lichens. It also spends about 1/3 of its time on the ground.

There are estimated to be between 1000 and 1500 Black Snub-nosed Monkeys left and they are listed in CITES appendix 1.

This individual was photographed in the Beijing Zoo. I loved the soft gray overall tone to this picture. I was quite taken by its gentle face, soft features and muted coloration.
