[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We found this interesting spider in long grass near Prague when we were having walk with our dogs. Martina has very good observation, even she was scared of it. :-)
This spider was surprise to me, I have never seen it before. Quite big spider with these unusual colours is not so often seen in here.
It makes typical webs, with high density stripes.
You can see it on my picture.

Argiope bruennichi - Wasp spider
---------------------------------
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Arachnida
Order: Araneae
Family: Araneidae
Genus: Argiope

From Wikipedia:
-------------------------------------------------------
Argiope bruennichi, or the wasp spider, is a species of orb-web spider distributed throughout central Europe, north Africa and parts of Asia. Like other members of the genus Argiope, (including St Andrew's Cross spiders), it shows striking yellow and black markings on its abdomen.

The spider builds a spiral orb web at dawn or dusk, commonly in long grass a little above ground level, taking it approximately an hour. The prominent zigzag shape called the stabilimentum, or web decoration, featured at the centre of the orb is of uncertain function, though it may be to attract insects.

The spider paralyses its prey, mostly grasshoppers, flies and bees, by injecting it with venom.

Hi Tomas.
Perfect capture. A few years ago I saw this spider nearby my garden. But nuwadays I'm looking for it but I've not found yet. I think I saw it in October. Perhaps if October came, I'll found again it. Regards.
