Brave or ignorant?
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|I took this photo north of the Olifants camp in the Kruger National Park, South Africa, at the Olifants lookout. |
Initially I was interested in getting the reflections of the impalas and only realized later that they were drinking next to a crocodile.
I took several photos and in none of them the impalas showed any nervousness. They calmly had their fill and then walked away. The crocodile did not move and it is possible that it did not warm up sufficiently to react.
It is possible that the impalas did not recognise the shape as a crocodile where it was lying amongst the rocks. I am sure that they would have fled if the croc moved.

This is a great action shot! Nice composition, POV, DOF and lightning! For me, they were no brave nor ignorant, just very thirsty :) Good post and TFS,
Talk about a study in camouflage. All shades of brown, from the landscape to the Olifants to the croc. Very nice capture. I agree with Claudine, we all must drink. TSF

I agree with Horia, it is calulated, notice how, papa is closet to the croc, them momma, then junior .. What a fine capture of anmial behavior ..
I like the long DOF .. the rocky back gound.

WOW! What a stunning capture!
If i were to say...brave but stil calculated. In my opinion the crock can't turn around the quickly so they have enough time to run away.
Great POV, colors and light! Nice details and composition. Very well done!
Bravo and TFS

Very beautiful! Excellent composition, colour and lighting. I like the reflection in the water makes it seems to tranquil against the looming danger.
this is a very impressive wildlife photo!
the serene pose of the impalas reflecing in the calm water and the danger just a few steps aside!
