Polyporus tuberaster

Polyporaceae, Polyporales, Agaricomycetidae, Basidiomycetes, Basidiomycota, Fungi

In fact I am not very sure if this one is a Polypurus tuberaster or a Polyporous squamosus, but the small size, the place where I found it and the top view which is not visible here, makes me think about tuberaster.

Polyporus tuberaster is similar to P. squamosus by its scaly pilear surface, usually a black stipe basis, and similar pore and basidiospore size. The presence of sclerotia in the first species has traditionally been one of the basic characters to separate both species (Jahn 1969, Gilbertson & Ryvarden 1987). Nevertheless, Campbell & Munson (1936) reported formation of sclerotia-like structures of P. squamosus on elm wood blocks in laboratory studies. Donk (1960) suggested that both taxa could be conspecific. He separated both species by the different microstructure of their pilear scales, as Jahn did later (Jahn 1969).

Hi Felipe and Christina. This is a great picture because of the low pov. The colors are very nice and the exposure is spot on. Very sharp details aswell. Well done & TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Your low POV created a beautiful contrast between the sky and mushroom. Great use of the flash to keep all colors correctly and the details of the bottom of the mushroom in perfect shape. Colors and sharpness are superb.

Niek

Hola Felipe,
Saludos,
José M.

Hi Cristina & Felipe!

Great to see new combo of blue sky and fungi. POV is brilliant! Diagonal composition, colours, details - I like all. Excellent use of flash. Congratulations!

By the way - during my todays walk I was thinking about you and one of your notes [you know - Greg, you didn't dedicat me fungi picture from long time :-)]. And, suddenly I founded few nice fungi, real macro stars :-) I took many photos of them, so expect dedication soon, my friend :-)

Hi Felipe,
The fungi master strikes again! ;)
I almost have to say a "breathtaking" POV, but then the others would think I'm layin' it on too thick :)
Seriously though, the POV and sky Bg with a touch of cloud makes it great. Excellent DOF. Very sharp, detailed and great use of flash to light her up!
Very well done.

Abrazos... Ricardo

Hi Felipe and Cristina, what a great shot, especially your POV. Very sharp and well captured, and the blurred sky looks good too. Nice shot,
Janice

Impresionante foto en todos los aspectos, pareja, mis más sinceras felicitaciones.
Un saludo

Fantastic POV on this one Felipe, fill flash has evened out exposure perfectly. Very sharp details and of course informative note. Well done mf.

as a complete ignoramus to fungi this could be the worlds most interesting and exclusive...and i dont recognise it..
but as a photographic presentation of a natural subject it is excellent to my eyes..
you have the well lit subject..attached to its environment and a beautiful sky and ambience to suggest a great outdoors area.
thanks
geof

a very attractive and nice angle, choosing the nice blue sky as a BG makes this image so outstanding.....bravo!
