Today after work I went to our local nature center to try a few macro shots. I was again mostly trying to get dragon fly shots as the wetlands there are loaded with them. But, again I got something other than another dragon fly shot to post. The center has an elevated concrete walkway about 1 meter above the water level so people can walk out thru the wetland area. It is a handy place to set up a tripod and wait for nature to come to you. The dragonflies were still to active in the heat and wind, but this young male White Tail Deer did not notice me at first. When I moved slightly to get my camera on him, he froze in this pose just long enought to get a few shots off. He really had to high step to get thru the muck.

No dragony fly shot again, but a nice macro of a White Tail deer.

Hi Scott,
This buck is really giving you the eye. Deer have such fine features and big soft eyes. The colour is bang on, both the deer and foliage in the background. Maybe next time you'll get a dragonfly :))
TFS Janice

Hi Scott
It's interesting what we can find when we keep our eyes open. I had a similar shot only at 2pm when these guys are not supposed to be active. This shot is crisp and sharp with well saturated color. Regards.
Greg

great capture Scott,
a very good quick shot, well taken and from a good quality, good point of view, very nice, good job.
gr. jaap

Hi Scott

Sorry you didn't succeed in your quest for a dragon fly, but this is a lovely shot of the deer. Very well composed, good saturation of colour, crisp, clear and sharp. Good camera work. :-)

Hi Scott!
You are pioneer of new sphere of photogrphy - macros of big mammals :-) I like stories like yours - sometimes we receive nice surprises from mother nature :-) Very good picture, I like deer's face and pose with one leg up. Great light and warm colours. Good luck with dragons my friend!

Great moment captured, Scott.
Love that hoof held in mid-air.
Wonderful pose and POV.
The light on him is perfect, and the details are very sharp.
He looks so strange with such a small head and a looong body.

A beautiful deer so well framed!
Great clarity in colours and good textures in the fur coat...
Strange pose, maybe the surprise froze the movement...

Hi Scott,

Scott,
Another great photo-op I missed with you! I regret not going when you called but as i told you, I'd probably have scared this guy away!
Perfect composition and I'll give you a lot of credit for being on a concrete walkway bridge and still getting this full frame shot, there was NO WAY you could have backed up, you'd have fell into the water!
This guy's an oddly long deer, this is probably a valuable picture for the IL Dept. of Conservation, maybe you should run it by them. Superb image my friend,
Scott
