The green background is in fact a football field, and the owls are landed on one of the post goals. They had no reason to be afraid. Even if somebody wanted to try to reach some of them, that wouldn’t be possible, for there is a high wire fence all around the field. To shoot this, I even had to put a part of the body of the camera through one of the holes of the fence. Despite this, the owl on the left flew away as soon as I took this picture. The other remained where it is. I had the feeling it was a little sleepy or lazy. I took several shots of it, and in some of them its eyes are closed. The other one was landed on the field, some meters away.

Here, they are known as coruja-do-campo (Speotyto cunicularia), a.k.a. burrowing owl. They usually build their nests by digging holes. They can be found almost all over Brazil, feed on insects and have nocturnal and diurnal habits.

Lovely post Livio, good strong colours, great composition and great feather texture. Excellent DOF and brilliant eyes.
Good note.
Well captured!

Amazing capture Livio. Colors are stunning. I like the composition with the stand (goals) and the green background. Nice couple. It seems that both of us were hunting owls today.

Mais uma grande foto Livio, não é fácil encontrar uma coruja por ai e você achou logo duas, belo momento. O angulo esta muito interessante. Parabéns.

I don't speak english but I will try because I like the bird's pictures. This is a beautiful shot! There is a owl who seems very curious and the second relatively relax. The green of the grass is luminous. The brightness and the Deep of field are very good but the right corner of the tree is little bit surexposed. Congratulation !

Livio, Great lookin' couple! The green BG works well to contrast this pair nicely. TFS

And a pair to boot. Way to go on capturing the two owls. Excelent view and details.

Great picture. Soft texture and luminosity (probably taken in cloudy day). It shows two owls with two different characters, as it can be seen by their facial expression. One is very attentive and the other one seems to ignore the photographer. Well done. I really like it.

These two look like cousins! The colors and sharpness in this photo is very dramatic, as is the fierce looks in their eyes. Well captured. Wow!

I love this twins :-) In his eyes I see that one is very optimistic, romantic and joyful and her sister... pesimistic, a little malcontent and a dawdler :-)
Interesting ;-)

A sweet pair, I just love those eyes, Livios! Ungrateful owl to fly away, at least he gave you the wide eyed look before leaving.
Wish this was mine, well done!

Fantastic capture on the football field.
Fantastic, technical shot, good sharp, great colours and a good pof and dof, I love it, very good job

Yes they are sure a lovely couple Livio. Super post.

Brazil! Lucky for us football is a great sport in Brazil. Also my favourite team. Exceptional moment you caught here, Livio. The details are tack sharp and those eyes are really captivating. Great shot. Nice crop to lessen the impact of the goal post as well.

Just a magnificent capture of these two owls. The color and sharpness is simply marvellous.Keep up the good work.

Beautiful iamge Livio. The effort you went to was worth it. Very nice composition and good note. Nice sharp image, well done.

Very good sharpness and colours. The vivid green background enhances the owls perfectly. The depth of field is excellent. Very well done. A pleasue to see.

Rapaz, que foto linda!
ja estou namorando uma camera desta..excelente qualidade sonhava com uma NIKON D100, mas pelo que vi esta não perde em nada em qualidade.
Um abraço

This photo is very nice and very funny too. When i read in your comment that the one one the left was about to fly away when you made the photo i looked at it's expression and laughed :)

I noticed some noise in the background which i tried to remove, i hope you don't mind. See the workshop.

Good it came back on the frontpage, Livio. I missed it! Fantastic opportunity you had, and how well this comes here with the green soccer fiels behind. the two poses are different and add a comic feeling to the whole image. Wonderful couple. A favorite!
