To me the Cape is most stunning after a big storm. The days are idyllic and the ocean is like a mirror, probably one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I took this shot after 3 days of stormy weather. Included in this post is n image that I posted as a workshop to show how violent these storms can be. My previous post was taken as this same storm moved in.

Some more history about the Cape of Storms, later also known as the Cape of Good Hope
Bartholomeus Diaz was the first person to circumnavigate the Cape in 1488 and named it "Cape of Storms". Vasco da Gama rounded the Cape on 22nd November 1497. This led to the establishment of the Cape sea route. It is fair to say that the Cape of Good Hope lies at the maritime crossroads of the world and that it is here that East met West.

In the 17th century a Dutch Captain, Hendrick van der Decken, attempted to round the Cape in strong headwinds. Mysteriously his ship and crew disappeared, but the saga is immortalized in the legend of the ghost ship "The Flying Dutchman", which has allegedly been sighted by a number of witnesses. Fortunately I have never seen him, because then I would have been known as the “Flying Boertjie”

Very calm atmosphere and lovely soft colours Japie. Really a pleasant picture to look at - a very nice place where one could go a find oneself.

ooohh dis pragtig, die kaap is so mooi.. die suide van Frankryk lyk omtrent dieselfde. thnx for sharing a piece of my home country

This kind of shots came out really good with digital cameras. I have seen several of this type made with a nikon D70 fantastic, and this with you canon-tamron team is just superb. You have made a whole world in 800 pixels. Very good work.

Great shot Japie.
I like the light, it's gorgeous.
The nature is fantastic, 3 days after a storm it look like this. Great colours and composition.
Excellent work.

BTW.
The credit card method works well ;-)

I like it very much, but I don't really know why ;-)
Maybe because of the atmosphere which is really peaceful but also mysterious and maybe because of the colours.
I haven't seen true ocean yet, but I hope I will soon.
Thanks for posting :-)

Japie, Land and sea, sun & sky come together here in superb fashion.. A wonderful landscape to behold! Well done!

I can imagine this one as a 3' x 5' on a wall. Great post Japie, with a lot of "atmosphere" in it. Very moody. I really like it.

A very beautiful landscape photo. Very nice colos and detail. The fill flash really ads nice detail to the foreground that would be lost without it. Nice job!

hello japie !
un superbe paysage que tu nous montre la, le lieu semble vraiment ireel et magique certainement grace a une superbe lumiere.
good shot

What left to say after all these Titans! This is excellent Japie, well done.

Wonderful image, Japie. Rich vivid colors and elements, but still an impression of calm an silence. It's a strong atmosphere, a bit frightening due to the immensity around. Very good framing leading the eye everywhere. Must have been wonderful for you to breathe slowly and enjoy the sea air that day.

Great Art.
But I ignored that you had become a landscape painter. You possess many hidden talents, Japie. Narrator, painter and photographer in more. ;-)
I love this landscape. An impressive peace gets free of this image.
Thank you.

p.s.: That has to be expensive to you in painting to paint frescoes. ;-)

Excellent Japie. Lovely light and an impressive composition. Well done.

Beautiful landscape Japie, I've enjoyed looking at your latest pictures which are a departure from your usual subjects. You have carried these off with the same skill and excellence as your animal pictures. Brilliant.

Beautiful sunset(?) Japie, lovely warm colours. I like how the light is shining on the foreground rock and the green hills on the right and not on the ones in the distant. Well done.

This is crammed full of atmosphere. Could be a scene from Lord of the Rings. It's very surreal. I just love it.

Dear Japie,
The Cape of Good Hope is one of the most beautiful Landscapes in the world!

I know, many members will wish to kill me electronically - but believe me - I know what I talk about. I am a South African Citizen only since 1979 and not bias!

You have captured all possible lights fractured by the remaining humidity in the air and reflected by the sea - and I truly wish - I could give you a medal for this image, because words cannot describe the beauty of THE Cape.

Best Wishes
Ingrid
