I have to own up that I haven't had chance to ID this one, despite Rob (Robbrown) telling me what it was when I took this picture, but I'm at work and my books are at home and I still have no broadband at home...

Anyhow, this is another of the rather large number of shots I took on Sunday when Rob came for a photo session.

The DOF is not quite there in totallity, but it is almost there which for me (I don't normally venture into photoing dragonflies) is pretty good going.

Taken on my 300mm lens with tripod, we visited the burnt out section of Thursley Common (which is pretty much all of it). The black in the BG is charcoal from the fire... but it has let a lot of light in and this one was 'sunbathing' though I'm sure it has a more techincal term!

So for Rob - this is one of the shots I managed to get...

Have to fly again - must get round to actually getting home - working too many 12hr days at the moment...

Thanks for looking and I'll update the ID when I have some ideas...

Hi Emma

Good to see that at least some wildlife is returnng to Thursley Common. I like this shot of what I beleive may be a Common Darter. DoF is pretty good considering you used a 300mm lens. I like the composition and the OOF charcoal in the bg at least makes for a nice backdrop. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Regards, Mark.

Hello Emma, nice shot really colorfull and detailed.
Great compo, too.

hi emma
rien a reprocher a ce super cliché en macro.

Hi Emma,
The BG seems like a dream... and the picture like a painting! Great work on this!

Hi Emma, nice shot. The composition is good and all round decent stuff. I'd be tempted to clone out the bright spot in the bottom right.

It's a male common darter Sympetrum striolatum

Hi Emma, excellent shot, love the BG, clarity and the texture of the twig !.

Best regards, Chris

Hi Emma your right its come out realy well, far better than any of mine of the same beastie. And it is a male Common Darter.
TFS yours Robert

Excellent D-Fly shot. I like the shallow DOF and the good detail on the length of it's body. Job well done,

Nice macro work, Emma. I think the DoF is perfect -- we really need a clear focus on the eyes, body, and to show the details in the wing, and that's what you've captured. The slight roll off in focus is actually a bit of a plus for me, it's a bit of information on the 3D nature of the shot, plus I really like the blur in the bg.

Hi Emma

Making a break from landscapes? :)
Great shot, especially considering that it was taken at 300mm. Excellent POV, lovely colors but especially superb light. The charcoal in the BG really brings out the nice colors of the subject.
Very well done!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Emma,

Very transparant photo with great sharpness. I like the way you blurred the background.

Hi Emma,
As a Landscape lover, I really hope you will have broadband again really soon. Not that I don't like this photo, but I want to see more of beautiful Scotland. This is a lovely close up, and the details and colors look perfect. The OOF BG is perfect, and almost looks like one of those studio BG's I think it is the charcoal that gave it this pattern and colors.

nice one Emma,
good quality shot, the pov is good and the dof is great, the composition is nice, try next time put him out the middle of the composition. farther good job.

Un agradable macro con buen DOF y POV que muestra correctamente al insecto sobre su percha.
El trasfondo es adecuado y bien obtenido, así como el encuadre... sólo criticaría una leve sobre exposición, aunque informas que no has disparado el flash.
Buen trabajo.
Saludos... Ricardo

Pleasant macro with good DOF and POV that it shows correctly to the insect on their hanger.
The background is adequate and well obtained, as well as the framing... only I would criticize a light over exposed, although you inform that you have not shot the flash.
Good work.
Greetings... Ricardo

Good macro, well done on the sharpness and the lighting. Thanks Emma !

Lovely photo anyway pablo. Nice catch of a insect that isn't the easiest to have around for more than a couple of seconds at the time..
