Meadow brown - Maniola jurtina - Family: Satyridae

Although it has suffered major declines in many places as a result of agricultural intensification, the meadow brown is still a common and familiar butterfly of rough grassy places, overgrown road verges, waste ground, woodland glades, heaths, downlands and gardens. It is very widespread and even abundant in areas of wild grassland. It is on the wing from early June to mid-September.
The male's upperside is dark brown with a single black eye-spot surrounded by orange. The female is larger and brighter with the orange extending into the hindwing. Eggs are laid amongst grasses. The caterpillars are green and covered in fine white hairs, feeding by day when young, hibernating through winter and feeding again by night the following spring.
They eat smooth meadow grass and various other meadow species.

Caterpillars: various meadow grasses (Poa sp.), bent (Agrostis sp.) and fescuesFestuca sp. ); adults: the nectar of flowers including thistles (Cirsium sp.) and knapweeds (Centaurea sp.).

What a beautiful shot you have here!
I love the coposition here, the butterfly, only the tip of the flower it is one and some other OOF flowers in the BG.
Superb colors, excellent POV and DOF, great light and the classical but still very nice frame ;)

A pleasant shot of this little brown butterfly.
The composition and POV are great and the details captured both of the insect and the flower gives the shot excellent appeal. The DOF rendered the BG well OOF while it enhances to subject very well. The rich colours are magnificent and the exposure was perfectly managed.

Beau jeu de couleurs mariant le jaune et le vert, et l'insecte étant dans une tout autre tonalité, prend bien sa place dans l'image. J'aime particulièrement le cadrage, qui laisse de la place au sujet pour respirer, et aussi qui se découpe sur l'arrière-plan. Bien réussi.
