[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Corolina Spring Beauty [Claytonia caroliniana].
April to May.
Found in rich forests and moist forested slopes.
This little flower usually finishes its flowering before the trees leaf out. The stripes on the petals are guides for insects, leading them to the nectar.
The name, Claytonia caroliniana, commemorates John Clayton (1686-1773), a British physician who collected plants in Virginia.
