REED CORMORANT
(Phalacrocorax africanus)

Identification:
All black with brown speckled wings, yellow bill and bright red eye, males have a crest on forehead. Females and juveniles are browner with off white underparts

Call:
Usually silent

Distribution:
Throughout Southern Africa except dry Kalahari region

Status:
Common resident

Habitat:
Mainly inland waters and dams

Habits:
Most of the time they are solitary when fishing
They are gregarious when they roost at night

Food:
Frogs, fish, insects and crustaceans

Breeding:
Mainly from July to April
Nest : A platform of sticks or reeds
Clutch : 2-4 eggs
Incubation : About 24 days
Nestlings : Fed for another 35 days

Hi Andrea

Great shot with this cormorant "cutting" through the water.
I like the colors and effects on the water very much. The lines that he leaves behind are great next to the very calm water elsewhere.
Lovely POV, excellent sharpness and framing complete this outstanding composition.

le cormoran est souvent decrier car reputé pour vider les etang,mais moi je le trouve tres beau avec ses beaux yeux bleus.ici tout tranquille,bon reflet dans l'eau.
