Two Different Species of Hoverfly on Dandelion

Two different species of Hovefly already presented previously but in this image united, on a Dandelion Flower (Taraxacum officinale), one of them approaches in flight while the other one feeds on the flower.
Both specimens don't exceed the 10mm. of size.

I chose an adjusted DOF of F4 to obtain enough speed for the capture in movement, because of the bad conditions of light of the moment.

The specimen in flight belongs to I genre Allograpta obliqua it sporadically present in Buenos Aires and the other one, regrettably I have not been able to even classify.

Allograpta has a design in the body that I compared in a previous presentation with that of a Canadian Totem.

The image was captured with the assistance of a mini tripod to less than 10cms. of the ground... the bottom that is perceived is the grass around of the flower.

I hope you like it J

Hi Ricardo,
Very interesting and beautiful shot of these two different hooverflies. You caught the flight of the left one in an absolutely amazing way.

Hej Ricardo,
you know I love hoverflies and both yours are beautiful.
A very good catch, two differnt species, one in the air and one eating. The compo is very good, nice colours and well comnposed. Maybe it could be a tiny bit sharper, but thats a minor nit.
Very good work, old friend.

I have to wait 5-6 months before I can see any hoverflies again. ;-(

Hi Ricardo,
it's such a wonderful moment, you catched the flying fly so excellent and also the other is so nice on the yellow flower. Very well done, thanks

Hi Ricardo.

This is a very nice picture. Colors are great and POV, DOF and composition are very good. Focus on the main subjects on the right is very good, but there's some motionblur on the flying fly in the left. Anyway, a great picture all in all. TFS!

JL.

P.S. Esta "me la pido".

well done!

Hello Ricardo,
This is a great shot again. Both the insects are very clear and sharp! Their mouvement is very well frozen with a beautiful composition and POV. I like those details and colors. I think that you managed very well with those difficult lightning conditions. This is really well done with interesting notes. Thanks,

Hello Ricardo.
"incoming" wow like a bomber plane this hooverfly is aproaching this flower. What an action shot. POV, sharpness and details. Colors, light and composition are great.

Hello Ricardo!
The wings of the hoverfly in the air are invisible, so that it looks like a missile ready to strike the flower :-)!
On the serious note, it is an impressive capture, especially at shutter speed 1/320.
Neat Image has the tendency to flatten out details. Have you tried Noiseware?

Hello Ricardo !
It's fantastic to have 2 different species on the same picture. The details are excellent on both hoverflies, even on the one that is flying, I' very impressed. The colors are beautiful too, as well as the composition, POV and DOF. It's really a wonderful picture, very well done !
Valerie.

It looks like you were pretty close, so very lucky and skilful to get two hoverfiles, one on the flower and one approaching. Nice composition created by the crop. The flies are not super-sharp, it looks like the point of focus is in the petals of the dandelion, but it still looks OK.

Hi Ricardo

Hello Ricardo,

Superb picture of these two hoverflies!!! You did a great composition with those 3 elements (2 flies and the dandelion (btw, did you know that dandelion came from 3 french words "dents de lion" meaning lion's tooth referencing the leaves of the plant). You capture 2 different species but also 2 gender: The one on the flower is a male and the other one in fligth, a female... Great exposition (not easy on yellow) and dof letting us see a great blurred bg!

Great job and TFS,

Michel

Well done Ricardo.

Hello Ricardo!
This time a small "retrospectio" and comment to one of your pictures from the archive :)
I like composition of this picture, which as I believe was not easy to take. here we have a good DOF and many important details are also seen. On the other hand I think that you sharped to much this photo (especially syrphid flies).
