[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This photo of a bird was actually shot in Kololi in The Gambia, but because TE doesn't know The Gambia I chose to select the neighbouring country, Senegal. In September 2003 my girlfriend and I spent 2 weeks in Senegal and The Gambia. Anyway, this bird was shot during our breakfast in the Kairaba Hotel in Kololi. These birds (he was not alone!) were always on the lookout to snatch something from your plate. They were very busy jumping from pillar to pillar and I was lucky to shoot this one. I like the 'angry' look in his eye.

I have already posted this picture on TE HERE, but that was before I knew something about compostion (and before I realised this picture belongs on TN). I really think this picture has a way better composition. In this picture the bird is looking at something (probably my plate!) and in my earlier picture he was looking at the border of the photo. What do you think? I can use all the criticism, good or bad. Thanks!

Edit: This bird is called the Village Weaver (Ploceus cucculatus).

Great one Pieter!
Well catched!:)
The photo is very sharp and clear the BG is great, the colors of the bird are good as well!
I would like to know more about the technique you used to get this photo!

Fantastic shot Pieter,
great composition, and the detail and colours are excellent.
Some details about the bird would be good.
Fantastic shot though.

No nits here...very well done...great control with your flash and and wonderful detail with your focus. Super job, Pieter!

Good image. Great pose captured here. Maybe a little over sharpening as I can see a halo around the bird, but it doesn't detract from this wonderful capture. Great colours in this composition. Well done. TFS

Very interesting pose but the light could've been better on the bird.
Well done.

Hi Pieter
The face of a thief, no doubt. This looks like a female of one of our weaver species, but I wouls not dare a guess, as The Gambia is on my wishlist and All I know is that it is birdwatching heaven in Africa. Very nice, clean post, keep them comming.

Very great, nice framing and perfect sharpness. well done.

I've seen this before somewhere:):)
But that's OK, the shot really belongs here, and now we have a name for the bird which is good.
Nice composition, DOF and POV.

Great composition. He looks unreal with the perfect sharpness :-)))
Good job. Great photo.

Pieter, the first thing that grabs my attention here is the wild eye of the bird. A strong and powerful facial expression.

The point of view couldn't be better. Sharpness is excellent, as well as depth of field.

This is excellent Pieter. The detail is fantastic and you can clearly see the intentions of the bird. Good post. Well done

I missed this one Pieter. It's a very nice shot. The composition is very strong. There seems to be some detail lacking in the feathers - did you use a noise reducing filter? They can have that effect. Lovely focus on the eye, very well done.

Great capture, Pieter. He does look angry, and I bet it's because you were busy shooing him away from your plate in order to snap a photo! The POV is awesome and the focus is perfect. Nice post!
