[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This Amanita muscaria was already on it's side.
This is all new for me, photographing fungi. I've done landscapes, sports, people, architecture, but never the real small things that surround us people. But TN is pushing my limites and with this being my first fall season of photography, I wanted to try this as well.
I know the DOF is too shallow. But I didn't use my tripod....Know now that I have use it even if I have to take it first appart to get this low. So 1/30 sec at 200mm focal lenght and still a rather sharp image...I am happy.

I did my normal little adjustments in the RAW converter and Photoshop.

Any advise from the expert Fungi Photographers?

He niek!
Groeten Florian

Are you sure you didn't knock it over just to get this wonderful POV?:-)

It looks great like this with all the details under the cap. Excellent colours, light and i like the DOF

Hi Niek,
beautiful portrait of this amanita kills fly. Beautiful colors and good details.
Thank you,

Hahaha, lovely headline!
And such a pretty red funghi - I hope you didn't took it home for dinner :-(
Thanks for sharing, bye

Preciosos detalles y hermosos colores Niek. Saludos por tan bello trabajo. JL.

So now you are going to become an expert on fungi too. Good. I have about four of them to post and you can identify them for me : ) No...that's ok. If I actually post them I'll try to research it myself...maybe.

Why is it that the prettiest ones are usually the most deadly. Is this one of those? The red and the underside pattern are really nice.

Groet, Jacob

Hallo Niek,
Shallow DoF did not hurt in this case, since you focused your shot at the interesting part of the fungus. Nicely done.

This is great, to see that you, a MASTER of photography, is still learning. YOU ARE HUMBLE.
To me, this is a great photo. Well focused, composed,
sharp contrasts, with excellent clarity.
What more can you ask?
Best regards,
P.S. Niek ... I'm going to make it though I lost my library.

Very difficult to take its photo. It is generally crowded near and very small. Nice colors and sharpness.

Hi Niek,
I like this title, you sound like a little boy who committed mischief. Are you sure you didn't do it? :) I'm not a mushroom expert and like I said many times before, I think that mushrooms are as difficult as bird to photograph. Not that they move a lot but, doing the perfect focus on them is very difficult for me :) This is a good first attempt and as you wrote, you know exactly what is not really perfect with so, I just can say that you certainly have a talent for them; keep on trying and I’m sure that soon, we’ll see the “perfect” shot :) Thanks,

Hi Niek,
I like the fact that you have the gills and cap area in good detail. The falloff in the DOF to the bottom foreground look fine. Sounds like you need a better tripod.I need a better one. Mine will not go down to ground level. The overall composition and POV looks great. Nice shot. Keep pushing your horizions farther. It continues to make you a better photographer.

Hi Niek.
It is ususal to find the muscarias in the ground, just like this, or with stem broken due to the weight of the cap, specially when it rains.
Your note is an excellent auto-critic for my personal taste, so little to add. I know is difficult to get this kind of view with a reflex. I am thinking about buying a angle finder for my 350D. We usually use the Sony, as the swivelling body is very confortable.
When we use the 350D, we have a camping mat to be able to lay in the ground without getting wet and dirty when we use the minitripod.
Some more advices for fungui photography: in this note, and in my critic on this post from Janice.
Regards, Felipe.

cute title...:o) Nice photo as well, very colorful Mushroom..I like it. TFS

Hi Niek,
a wonderful warm glow lays over this shot. Nice POV to get a very nice view of the gills. Sharpness, colors and composition are wonderful.

its like the alice in wonderland toadstool with the caterpillar missing
nice shot and they do get kicked around...just as you see them they are underfoot
good overall lighting brings out the background as well
