Please help me identifying this bug!
The size would be at least 30 mm in length.
Not being an expert in bugs and only equipped with an old insect guide my best guess would be an "Geotrupes stercorarius" german "Grosser Rosskäfer". First guess was a "Carabus coriaceus", but the long tentacles were missing and the body shape was more round.
I refrain from describing the bug from literature as long as identification is not sure.
I saw him in the woods of the north rim of the Eifel near the city of Langerwehe. It was in a forest mainly from beech-trees. As i closed up with my cam he didn´t flee, but posed in this defensive stance.

Hallo Werner,

Hallo Werner,

hi werner,
nice shot,
well composed, nice pov, good dof,

Hi Werner,
I cannot identify Your specie, because I'm much stronger in fungi than in insects, but I'd like to say it's a beautiful macro, showing the insect and its details quite well, and a good choice of exposure. Bg is a bit grainy, but You can avoid this problem by using gaussian blur selectively - always depending on the given photo, but with radius from 1 to 3 pixels. As I see, ca. 1,2 pixels should do here.
Tfs, best regards from Hungary, László
