"I am nice but I can eat your cat!"
Common Name: Canadian Lynx
Lynx canadensis
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata (Vertebrata)
Class: Mammalia
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Genus: Felinae (Lynx)
Species: canadensis
Misc.:
The debate continues whether or not the Canadian Lynx is in fact a separate species from the Eurasian (a.k.a. Siberian or Iberian) Lynx, or merely a sub-specie. Experts are evenly divided on this subject, but for now, it remains a separate species based on its marked adaptive differences for prey capture. The name Lynx comes from the Greek word "to shine," and may be in reference to the reflective ability of the cat’s eyes.
Size and Appearance:
The Canadian Lynx is considerably smaller than its Eurasian counterpart, approximately half the size. Its fur is usually white tipped, giving it a frosted appearance, and is only indistinctly spotted. The coat color ranges from a reddish-brown to gray, and also occurs in a rare "blue-lynx" which is the result of a genetic mutation. They have a flared facial ruff, black ear tufts, and long hind legs with a short tail. Their large, wide-spreading feet are covered in fur, which act like snowshoes, and are effective in supporting the cat’s weight on the snow. They are often confused with their smaller feline cousins the Bobcat, but can be easily distinguished by their tail tips. The tail of the Lynx looks as though it was dipped in an inkwell being black all the way around, whereas the Bobcat’s tail appears to have been painted black on top and white on the bottom.

Une belle réussite Luc. Superbe. Les deux fois où je suis allé à l'ecomuseum, je n'ai jamais réussi à bien photographier ce lynx. La lumière mettant en valeur son pelage est vraiment fascinante.

Luc, my cat is orange, however he sure does look like Mr Lynx minus the ear tuffs. He's a big cat, we named him Simba and lives up to his name and he is 13 years old, young.

Excelent capture and details of this beautiful portrait of the lynx. The lighting in front sets him apart.
Well done.

Mike

No Luc, this fellow looks like a friendly pussycat who wouldn't hurt a fly! What a beautiful expression you have captured on his face -sweet and maybe a little smug too. All perfect - colours, pose, sharpness, details. Well done and TFS.

I like lynxes very much. Look at his face and furry legs. Beautiful! Detailed and with good, warm light. Great work Luc.

By the way - top of lynx ear is called in Polish 'pedzelek' which means 'little brush'.

Hi Luc
Stunning bobcat. These guys are so powerful and graceful, and the wimter fur makes them look even better. A nice pose you caught here.
It would have been nice if his head was slightly more to the left, giving us a view of his beautiful eye.
Also, on this specific pose, the feet should not be alputated, as you use them as part of the detail - the full paw should be visible, for real impact. I mention this to help you improve a little. You are now "there" where your quality is really good and composition should be towards perfect. Well done my friend. I wish this was my kitty.

That's fine with me, I'm not a huge fan of domestic cats - Only joking cat lovers ;-)

Lovely portrait Luc, the details and lighting are excellent and he is looking pretty content. Had he just eaten Tiddles?

Looks like a real cuddly kitty but I guess she's pretty mean. These guys are not nice enemies. I like the shot, Very well done

Nice shot Luc,
He looks very content. Another great post
Thanks for sharing

We had some posts of this animal lately in TN and your note is perfect to document better this creature. Unfortunately in places like Spain, the Iberian linx you are talking about is almost exctint due to the human pressure. At least in Canada and West Europe there are still remote places for them to live.
A very original picture. TFP.

Great shot Luc, perfect pose, great colours and fur details.
Good note, thanks for sharing.

One smiling pussy with huge paws ;-))
Great capture with good sharpness, details and lighting, good DOF.

I am doing some catchup work. I think enough critique has been given. It's a fine animal. Lovely shot, specialy with th elight from the front lighting up the side of the face. Great shot!

Charming beast, very noble posture, make you think of a male lion rather than a lynx, which tells me there is no smaller cats, just felines, thats all ...

Excellent shot. Nice POV and great focus.
TFS

Nice shot. Good light and very attractive title too.
