I photographed this Ring-billed Gull over Grapevine Lake in Texas. It is a late morning shot in full sun.

Ring-billed Gull - Larus delawarensis
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Charadriiformes
Family: Laridae
Genus: Larus

This gull is about 16 inches in length and has a wingspan of about four feet.

It has a short, bright yellow bill with a black ring at the tip. It has white head, neck, chest and belly feathers and a soft gray back and upperwings. It takes three years for the ring-billed gull to achieve adult plumage.

The ring-billed gull makes its home on lakes and rivers. It may move to the ocean in the winter.

The female ring-billed gull lays two to four eggs in a hollow in the ground. The nest is made with reeds and rushes. Both the male and the female incubate the eggs. The eggs hatch in about three and a half weeks. Both parents will feed the chicks regurgitated food. The chicks leave the nest a few days after they are born. They fledge in about a month.

Hello Ken!
Incredible sharp image!
The silver tones of the wings looks great. And look at that tail, fully expanded and showing us their magnificent feathers.
Excelent POV.

Once again I must compliment you on a fine, sharp capture. This might be the first time I've ever found a gull anything but annoying. Good job.

I really like your POV, Ken.
Your choice of crop makes a strong visual impact.
The light and focus on the head are excellent,
and the spread of the wings and tail give the shot a great sense of balance.
TFS. : )

Hi Ken,
Great capture of this Ring-billed Gull with excellent POV and sharpness.
Something must have inspired you to clip away the wingtips, or were you that close?
TFS, best wishes, Ivan
