Hi,

I had been to Kalkere woodlands near Bannerghatta yesterday, Saw this fellow basking on a leaf and took some pictures.
I searched a lot and could not find the id of this fellow the closest I got was Faunis canens arcesilas (Common Faun). The Common Faun is a forest denizen and usually lurks close to the ground in well-shaded areas. When disturbed it springs up from underfoot but does not fly far. The underside of the butterfly is deep brown with dark transverse lines and a series of white spots on both wings. The upperside is orange-brown and unmarked. But I doubt the ID, Can somebody help!!!

Update: Thanks to peter(Batu) , this is Abisara echerius (Plum Judy)

Thanks
Goutham R

Hello Goutham,
your picture shows a butterfly species of the
-- genus: Abisara
-- family: Riodinidae
I have no time for exact species identification - perhaps later.
Pretty good focus and sharpness concerning the entire butterfly.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Goutham,
Very nice composition showing this beautiful butterfly on a tatty leaf. Excellent sharpness and good focus and I like the colours and the composition very much.
TFS, Ulla

This butterfly is really different, Goutham. I wonder whether we have seen the likes of it on TN before. Maybe some expert more gifted than you might come out with its true ID, if you doubt it yourself.
The picture is lovely. The colour of the butterfly is true to the original, which, (to go into an unnecessary digression), reminds me of the colour of my Cocker Spaniel pet I used to have long time ago :-)!
TFS and take care.
