Hey Luc! Play with me again please!
River Otter
Lontra canadensis

This stocky, muscular member of the weasel family is distributed throughout most of North America. They prefer life on the shores of deep, clear rivers, lakes, large marshes, and ocean bays. They attain a maximum length of about 1.4 m and a weight of about 13.5 kg. River Otters have the thick lustrous fur characteristic of amphibious mammals.
Wary in the wild, they are, nonetheless, sociable, docile, playful animals and easily domesticated. The European species was once used to catch fish for the table.
Primarily nocturnal, otters remain active year round. Their diet consists mainly of fish, but they also eat insects, frogs, and occasionally small mammals such as muskrats.
Sometimes falling prey, on land, to wolves and coyotes, the otter’s principal enemies are humans.

There is two of them at the Ecomuseum.
When they are not sleeping, resting or eating, they play together. It is very pleasant to observe their plays.
I tried to photograph them during their plays but until now whitout very good results. They have a pool and a lot of space for playing.
They do not stay in place, always mouving by emitting small pointed sounds. Lovable animals, they make us smile in spite of us.

The BG is snow. Taken with a monopod. Please, take a look at the workshop for comparaison with the original shot.
I hope you like this picture.

Hi Luc, you did a good job on the original photo. Very clear and sharp, showing good details of his coat. Well done and TFS.

Great job on the this image Luc. The original is really over exposed. This has a very high 'cute factor'. Nice work. TFS.

Differcult shot with that backlight, but I like the efect of the shot, the fine details are very good, you almost can count his hair, very good point of view, very good job

What a funny face Luc! I hope you played with this cute animal. Great portrait, like others said, little overexposured on BG.

Great portrait Luc,
Excellent details of his coat. Very cute image
Thanks for posting

Simply gorgeous,Luc. Everyone loves otters (except the nasty man with the spade in 'Ring of Bright Water')
You sure this wasn't taken in Otterwa? He he h....

Très beau portrait de loutre. Bonne composition. Les détails du pelage sont bien révélés. Seul petit problème à mes yeux : la surexposition du côté gauche de la tête.

Just love him Luc they are creatures of great caricter and this one seems to be overflowing in it.my only serious crit of it would be the white fur merging with snow in the BG a little too much. I have found time to have a play in the WS hope you like.

Very cute Luc, they are so nice. Try to give them wallnuts and you will see...
Well done.

Excellente photo.

These guys are extremely shy and to get this post is a big bonus for the site. Wonderful mugshot Luc. Excellent detail and good notes.
Well done

MDP.

You are becaming the master of the potraits!
Incredible the deep black eyes, it has a very strong looking.
With such a amount of light on the snow and skin, the black nose lost some detail. It is a very nice post Luc. In your shots the animals look like your friends. Trasatlantic greetings from your friend, Felipe.

Hi Luc

This picture is spectacular. I can feel the fur. I love the otter posed.

Great shot Luc, it's miles better than the original, so good work you did on that. I love the pose - it almost looks cartoon like. Very nice work.

J'adore l'air sérieux ou de celui qui joue l'innocent de cette loutre ! La position un peu penchée dans le cadre est suffisant pour ne pas en faire une image statique malgré le gros plan.

You have done some fine post-processing here to reduce the backlight effect (based on your workshop pic). The result is an excellent portrait of these curious creatures. Good sharpness of the fur detail, which is not easy. Overall a very pleasing image.
