Coal Tit (Parus ater)
Cincia mora
The Coal Tit is another perky little character found mainly but not exclusively in coniferous woodland. Several species of tit have a bold black and white face pattern but only the Coal Tit has this neat white stripe down its nape. The cold grey back colour is another distinguishing feature.
Breeds and winters in woodlands, particularly coniferous, and occurs in winter in gardens and hedgerows.
Widespread and numerous in most of Europe.
12-17 million breeding pairs throughout Europe.
