Finally getting the hang of exposure and composition on my D200 :D
I had a field-day at Sultanpur today... Soo happy & satisfied with the results :D

The Black-rumped Flameback (Dinopium benghalense) is a woodpecker which is a widespread and common resident breeder in much of the Indian subcontinent.

This flameback is a species associated with open forest and cultivation. It nests in a tree hole, laying three white eggs.

Like other woodpeckers, this species has a straight pointed bill, a stiff tail to provide support against tree trunks, and zygodactyl or “yoked" feet, with two toes pointing forward, and two backward. The long tongue can be darted forward to capture insects.

The Black-rumped Flameback is a large species at 26-29cm in length. It is a typical woodpecker shape, and has a golden yellow back, with paler wings. The rump and tail are black. The underparts are white with dark chevron markings. The head is whitish with a black nape and throat, and there is a greyish eye patch. Unlike Greater Flameback, Chrysocolaptes lucidus, it has no dark moustache stripe.

The adult male Black-rumped Flameback has a red crown. Females have a dark forecrown, with red only on the rear half. Young birds are like the female, but duller.

Hello Vishal,
What a nice capture!!! You caught amazing details on this beautiful bird which is very different from the ones we have here. I think he is real beauty. This POV, details and composition are great! I like this neutral BG that suits your subject so well. This is very well done with nice lightning. I like the mood of this picture. It has something surrealistic. Thanks!

What a beautiful bird, Vishal.
And yes, you have captured it in perfect focus and exposure.
I also like the composition, with the woodpecker framed by the two tree branches.
I wish I could zoom in a bit for a closer crop and have a better look at this gorgeous bird, though.
TFS. : )

Hi Vishal,
Some soft quality light and a spot on exposure. Beautiful subtle colors, and the detail is excellent. The shallow DOF has created an amazing backround. The overall composition and framing look great.
Well dobe!

Hello Shal,
Wonderful capture of this woodpecker!
I wonder on their beautiful colors.
I would like to see a closer approach to the bird, but I realize that this picure has a very good composition the way is it, with the upper branch almost following the bird's silhouette.
Congratulations, thanks for share and kind regards,

Hello Vishal,
Excellent shot of this beautiful woodpecker which I've seen in Goa! It's a pity you didn't get closer but your capture is very sharp in profile against the background and the colours are excellent. Nice composition too.
TFS, Ulla

He stands out excellently against the smooth background. Nice to see in a natural pose so your timing is great. The reds and yellows on his feathers give some impact to the photo whilst the branches lead us in.
Well done, thanks for this
