[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
One from the summer of 2006.It was a great season for butterflies and heres hoping this year will be the same.

The Small Tortoiseshell is common across the whole of Britain and Europe.
Its upperwings are orange-red with black patches and a dark border with blue crescents; underside is a dull brown and camouflaged like tree bark.

Glassy green eggs laid in clusters on nettles in May and again in July.
Caterpillars are spiny, yellow and black, and scatter to pupate on vegetation or on walls
Adults hibernate over winter in garages, outhouses, cellars and churches, emerging in early spring.

Hi Andy,

A fine close up, good POV and DOF but I can't say the same thing for cropping. It'd be much better if you'd cropped a little more from the right side.Great colors and details also.

Well done & TFS.

Hello Andy,
You have captured this pretty butterfly in its most appealing open-wing posture.
The image is perfect both technically and aesthetically.
Many thanks for sharing this beauty.

Hi Andy
Excellent shot and beautiful BG too
I like the POV with the winds of the butterfy wide open and we have a full view of this small Tortoiseshell
TFS and see you

Hi Andy and nice to see you back and posting!
What a charming capture!
I really like all the vivid and and well lighten colors here!
Also the POV is great - gibing an excellent angle for the beautiful upper pattern of the wings.
The DOF is simply imeccable, blurring the BG very nicly and the sharpness is outstanding!
A simple but very effective composition!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Andy.
I am happy to see your new post. It is nicely colored and details, lightened and composed. DOF is selected precisely;: BG is perfect blurred and very impressive too. My bets wishes and TFS.

Sorry, I have no time. I have just returned from short business trip and hasten for work.

Hi Andy

What an impressive shot! Love the details you show here. The colours are stunning. Nicely isolated from the OOF BG too. Congrats! :-)

Ricardo

Good macro Andy with intense colors starting from a good light control that offers a pleasant effect of warmth to the composition.
The elected depth offers integral focus on the insect and very good diffusion of the bottom of the scene, enhancing the silhouette of the same one.
Personally I had rotated the original (ignoring if it is possible) image breaking the horizontally of the image... but it is only my personal taste.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Hi Andy

A very beautiful butterfly captured in a stunning photo. The POV with the open wings are great and the simplistic composition with the butterfly, the 2 small flower heads, and the well removed BG is lovely. The other technical aspects were also very well executed to provide well saturated colours, stunning details, and a perfect exposure.

Well done and TFS.

PS. Sorry for the quickie, but time is in terrible short supply this weekend.
