FLY THE GREAT
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|A short break from bats, reptiles and amphibians, and finally the first picture of animals which are my favourite objects of photography - the insects!!! :)|
Tipula maxima (Tipulidae - Craneflies or Daddy-long-legs) - the biggest Central European fly species and also on of the biggest fly in Europe (especially if we look at lenght of legs and wing-span). Body lenght: 3-3.5 cm, wing-span - 6 cm or even more!
For the first view craneflies are a little similar to mosquitos (Culicidae), but all of them are vegetarians! Larvae of these flies often live in the soil or in the water where they are scavengers or feed on roots of different plant species. Adults may lap nectar or even do not eat anything in their short adult life. So they absolutely do not drink human blood!! :)
Many of these insects can be found near the water, especially in forest and mountain areas.
In some species of Tipulidae the sexual dimorfism can be easy recognized - in males the antennae are pectinated while in females they are just simple. In a few species females are also wingless.
And now a few words about situation of taking this picture. This fly was photographed during a nice walk with a company of cataclysta and cedryk from Pokrzywna village in Poland to Zlate Hory in Czech Republic, just a few days after Poland and Czech Republic were members of UE. For the first time without any problems we cound cross the border of Poland "just like that". And of course, this was my first photo of the "UE insect"!!! ;)
Of course it was absolutely necessary to celebrate this ocassion drinking a few excellent Czech beers ;)
Moreover, this is my 10th picture on TN so probably today a small celabration will be too! ;)

An outstanding close up of this insect!
I can see clearly why this are your favourites.
You got this macro with excellent results, clear and very sharp details on the body.
A very good composition and frame used.
This is a very good post to celebrate,
Congratulations, thanks for share and best regards,
Ladna fotka, podoba mi sie kompozycja i bardzo dobra notka. Co ty entomologiem jestes? Z uwag krytycznych to ze gdyby glebia ostrosci byl wieksza byloby lepiej

Ladna kolorystyka, idealne naswietlenie, ciekawe zblizenie z calkiem niezla liczba detali. Co do glebi ostrosci to jak dla mnie OK :-)

Bardzo ladne zdjecie szeroko rozpoznawalnego gatunku [O Boze jaki wielki komar, Heniek zabij go szybko!!!]. Ostre i dokladne tam gdzie trzeba, extra POV i 'promienista' kompozycja.
