[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The North Island of New Zealand is dotted with volcanos. In fact, the whole central area of the North Island is known as 'The Volcanic Plateau.
The three most notable volcanos in the very centre,by lake Taupo, are Ruapehu,Tongariro, and Ngaruahoe (Mount Doom in Peter Jacksons 'Lord of the Rings')
Further removed are Tarawera and Taranaki (also known as Mt Egmont),both impressive mountains in their own right.
This little volcano is Mount Kakepuku,a tiny cone, less than 500 metres high.Kakepuku rises from the Waipa River plain, not far from the town of Te Awamutu. It is largely covered in native broadleaf forest, predominated by Tawa,Pukatea, and Mahoe or Whiteywood. It is home to several species of native birds, including the North Island Robin, and recently,Hochstetters frog,a small native tree frog, has been found in the reserve.
This photo is taken from the Te Rauamoa reserve,on the southern flanks of Mt Pirongia.
Behind Kakepuku, and to its right, you can see the shape of another volcano,Maungatautiri.

Hi Steve!
I remember this picture from your www. One of your best! So tropical, so beautiful! It is very difficult to capture a rainbow in interesting way but you did it just superb. And volcanoes as a bonus! looks like postcard from Paradise. To favs!

Stunning shot Steve, there's alot to looks at in this photo, the rainbow adds some great colours and the view of the mountain is super. The foreground is a little dark - this is easily fixed using shadows and highlights in PSElements 3. I have done a WS to illustrate, I hopw you like it.

Great shot!
Very beautiful lanscape and the rainbow makes it look very special. The clouds and the "window" in them are also very interesting.
I like it.
Very well done!

Steve, This may be one of your best landscape shots IMO. This long view with broken blue sky and rainbow rt with Mount Kakepuku in the distance is superb! Great WA shot. Well done my friend!

Excellent excellent Steve. The rainbow really is very nice and makes this a great shot. Very well done

Hi Steve
This is very nice, as far as landscapes go, a real beaut, but I did a small WS, just to take away some of the shaddow, in the Land of Mordor, where the shaddow lies!

Hi Steve!
This is impressive! Great landscape improved by rainbow!!

I love it. New Zealand has been my dream of place I want to stay. It's so beautiful and quiet. Wish I could go there some day. Excellent view, Steve, so amazing moment you've captured here. Good work, my friend, congratulations!

Your composition is perfect! What an incredible shot to include a beautiful rainbow, sharp and crisp images of greenery, a volcano and a beautiful sky. Thank you for sharing a place I'll probably never get to see in my lifetime!
