[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Probably one of the hardest birds I've ever tried taking photos of, the double-barred finch. I managed this one and another photo from a distance.

Common name: Double-barred Finch
Scientific name: Taeniopygia bichenovii
Family: Passeridae
Order: Passeriformes

Found in Northern & Eastern Australia. I found this one at Riverdale Park in Logan, Queensland.

Also known as: Bicheno finch and Owl finch.

Identification: White face bordered with black, brown upper and throat, white underparts with the throat and underparts separated by a black line. Wings are black with white spots. Males and females look fairly similar though juveniles are duller and browner.

Hi Nyssa,
Very nice shot of this beautiful little Finch!
We saw a flock of these on the Tablelands in 2005 but they were, as you say, hard to photograph. You've managed very well, clear details and nice colours. Pity about the grasses but that's life!

Good composition, the twigs do distract a bit but this seems to be a shy bird who dosent venture into open areas so part of environment.

Hello Nyssa,
On our tour of E. Australia we saw a few of these Double-barred Finches but they never presented themselves in the way this shot shows. These guys are tricky, constantly on the move so you did a good job in this sharp and well-composed shot.

good shot of this bird. Sometimes they come very near. I saw some of them south of Normanton, but in fact I had no good camera with me.
