|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|I have several photos of Mount Rainier on my Trek Earth site, but decided to post one here with what I've learned, hopefully it will look better than my first attempts. |
Mount Rainier is in Washington State, USA. The elevation is 14,411 feet, but you can see why so many people wish to climb it when you're on one of these hiking trails, it looks just like you could walk right up it easily. However, Rainier is one of the most difficult state highpoints and unless you are an experienced mountain climber it is strongly recommended that you use a guide. The shortest hiking route is 16 miles round trip and involves a 9,000 foot vertical climb.
About 10,000 people a year attempt to climb Mount Rainier, only half succeed.
I took this photo with my small digital camera,
cropped, increased mid-tones and contrast, added frames and sharpened.
After reading Janice critique with a question about skiing I found out:
Most of the southwest portion of the mountain, where I took this photo, is National Park so only cross country skiing there.
The Northwest corner though has Crystal Mountain Resort which has 2300 skiable acres, a 3100-foot vertical drop and 55 marked runs (not to mention all the unmarked ones!) In fact, Crystal consistently appears on national magazine writers' lists of top resorts. Most recently, Skiing Magazine named Crystal #7 among ski resorts in all of North America!
It has a total or 10 lifts, with 2 high-speed 6 passenger lifts and 2 high-speed quads serving primarily intermediate terrain.
So see what you don't know when you don't skii??

This is a nice landscape picture, Lori. Maybe you could add more contrast adjustment to get the sense of depth and greatness of this mountain. Beautiful moment captured, congratulations!

So after reading your notes Lori, this mountain isn't one to ski on? You captured it well, and I like how it is framed by the trees on the lower ground. Well done.
