Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui )
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Painted Lady (Vanessa cardui [Linnaeus])|
These butterflies live almost everywhere, especially in open or disturbed areas including gardens, old fields, dunes.
Painted lady butterflies live on all continents except Australia and Antarctica. From the deserts of northern Mexico, the painted lady migrates and temporarily colonizes the United States and Canada south of the Arctic. Sometimes, population explosions in Mexico will cause massive northward migrations.
The painted lady is also known as the Thistle Butterfly because the caterpillars like to feed on them and also as the Cosmopolitan because it is the most widely distributed butterfly in the world.

Molto bene la nitidezza del primo piano che va sfocando verso l'estremità delle ali.
Ottima foto, con colori molto naturali.

belle image très bien composée. Un beau constraste entre la fleur et le papillon, et une mise au point presque parfaite.

Your presentation of the Painted Lady is fine, stately, solemn and surrounded by a tasteful frame but lacks neverthelsess in clarity and sharpness to do full justice to her English epithet. So it's a pity you couldn't bring forth more of what colours there are to be seen on the wings and render them sharper. I would also suggest you crop it more at the bottom, perhaps half-way through the blossom, which is pretty much dimmed anyway. Also, my very personal opinion is that a seal like yours here distracts from the picture. Thanks a lot though for being reminded of the beauty of the V. cardui and for your informative note,
splendid macro of this butterfly beautiful colors and detail cheer
