Good Morning

Ok, here is a third installment from my Sunday freeze fest! This is a White Throated Sparrow, which was taken quite by accident. These birds do not like to hang out on the branches; in fact they cling to the ground foraging. I have yet, until now that is, been able to get a shot other than them being on the ground! Believe me when I tell you this was surely an accident. I was shooting the Cardinal on my staging branch when she decided to leap to the ground for some seeds that had fallen. Well below her was this Sparrow who became quite unnerved when the Cardinal jumped down right on top of him. The Sparrows first action to take was jump up to the limb above. Now as luck would have it my lens was already focused on this spot so I was able to get about 10 shots before it jumped back to the ground again. See you out on the site, have a great day!

My setup when shooting:

1. Setup a Y shaped branch using a tree stand to hold it upright, place peanut butter in 1 inch holes that were drilled in the backside.
2. Positioned the branch close to the hide and checked several times to make sure that none of the peanut butter showed.
3. Got in my two man hide/blind about 15 feet away from the branch.
4. Set the camera to manual mode.
5. Fired off several shots each time, checked the results and then fire off some more.
6. I constantly checked the level meter in the camera for changes in the light strength.

Hi Greg,
We all need a bit of good luck now and then and when it comes we need to make the most of it, like you did with this shot. Like with your previous shots, the lighting on this White-throated Sparrow is just right: the eye having its catchlight plus all the details. The pose and POV are great too as is the usual sharpness.
Nothig but praise for this one!
Well done and TFS.

Hi Greg

Hi Greg

Now this is a splendid capture! Fortune smiled on you and rewarded you frozen patience...this is indeed a fantastic shot!
I really like the sharpness here on every angle of the sparrow, the charming and very well saturated colors and the excellent contrast!
I see Jacob posted the same species - but on the ground...as you said - but the pose and compo is better here.
Superb composition and presentation!
I wish you such luck all the time!

Bravo, my friend and TFS

Hi Greg,
I am just going to have to build a few natural feeding logs and branches to try to get shots like you produce. The quality is always superb. You have great seperation and isolation from the backround. Colors are perfect and the detail is tack sharp!
