Continuing series started yesterday I would like to dedicate this picture to Peter (peter stoeckl), great fan and lover of butterflies and moths. His interesting notes and fantastic photos allow to learn a lot about this beautiful insect group.
Once again thank you very much Peter for sending your pictures to gallery of the Polish Entomological Society!!!
:>

And now a few words about the object from this picture ;>

This is a Canary-shouldered Thorn - Ennomos alniaria (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Geometridae: Ennominae).

It occurs in almost all European countries. Larvae can be found from V do VIII on Alnus glutinosa and different species of Salix spp., Betula spp., and Ulmus spp. Adults can be observed from the end of July to the beginning of October.

It is one of more than 26000 species of Geometridae described till know by scientists with only about 410 species known from Poland.
According to the genus Ennomos in Europe there are only 8 species with 5 recorded from Poland.

The picture was taken in Spala Landscape Park where the moth was atracted to the light.

I really do not know if you agree with me, but because of canary colour and the shape of body for me it looks rather like "Easter's chicken" than species of Lepidoptera ;>

Hello Radomir,
This is one bizarre-looking creature, like the ones you see in sci-fi movies. Thank you for the informative note. The photo itself is excellent as usual. I particularly like the perfect flash exposure.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hej Radomir,
a very good close-up shot, the detials are fine.
Good use of the fill-in flash and the exposure is also good.
Well composed and I like the pose of the insect.
Well done.

A very unique picture! I like how you made eye-contact with the little moth. Very detailed, Well Done!

Bonjour Radomir,
Bravo.
Salutations

Great composition, exposure and DOF here - F74!! A very nice portrait of this fuzzy yellow moth from an unusual POV. I appreciate the notes, also.

bonjour radomir

bravo.

Hi Radomir,
This is a stunning capture!
The frontal POV couldn't be better to present us this pose of the insect.
It's really a great portrait.
The parts over the eyes adds a lot to the visual imapct.
It's great the effect the DOF got with the blurred wings and the vanishing background.
The trunk or bark over is placed has a nice texture and makes a very good combination with the bright yellow of the insect.
Execellent the fill flash use and the exposition was very appropiate.
Congratulations, thanks for share and my best regards,
JM

Ricardo

Hi Radomir

Wow! What a splendid capture!
And also a beautiful dedication…I’m sure Peter will be more than happy :)
This moth is sincerely one of the most beautiful i’ve ever seen!
The frontal POV here is terrific and it really shows those charming and details elements such as the wonderful antennas or the big round eyes :)
The details are excellent and very sharp, too.
I also love the strong contrast between the bright colors of the moth and te darker ones of the BG…works really great in this case and really makes the lovely details of your subject stand out even better.

All-in-all a superb post!
Bravo and TFS

Hi Radomir,

Hello Radomir,
or should I call you Tigerbeetle? ; ) This is an outstanding moth image, the detail and color conspire to knock me over. Easter chicken indeed! Wonderful.

Hello Radomir,
first of all let me thank you for this very kind dedication that is a great honour to me. Having been looking into TN rather infrequently those days I missed it and came to open it with some delay just now.
The creatively taken lively frontal view picture you present looks very refreshing, portraying this geometrid month as a real character.
Although I might have seen that species before I never really noticed its conspicuous yellow furry coat. Geometrids are a very awarding family to investigate and picture. With more than 400 different species in central Europe alone - as you say - a lot of pleasant surprises may be expected to come from them.
Thank you!
With best regards,
Peter

A Canary-shouldered Thorn - what a name for this alien-like creature... Yes it does look more like the Easter chicken than a moth!! Good shot Radomir and I love his big antennae (ears like the Easter bunny!!) It's a wonderful capture, TFS

Cześć Radek!
Super wielkanocny motylko-kurczaczek.
Gratuluję i pozdrawiam - Roma

Excellent macroshot of this moth in a really funny pose, beautiful fluffy cutie. I admire the results you get with your 5400 Nikon, as the camera is difficult to handle (my brother has the same) and focus is spot on. TFS, Patrick
