[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's one of the most familiar of our kingfishers. it's usually seen at ponds, puddles, paddyfeilds etc. It eats fish, tadpoles, small crabs, lizards and grasshoppers. i've seen it pouncing down on the prey and flying off with it to a nearby perch where the prey is battered to death and swallowed.
I happen to take this photo when it came for a quick dip in the water tank kept in front of my cow-shed. Let's say both the bird and i were taken by surprise as it's a very shy bird and takes off once it feels your presence.

Hello Smitha,
Welcome to TN!
Though this shot of the White-breasted Kingfisher is a little soft, you make a good start with this well composed image with fine BG. It is amazing how the refected turquoise blue varies with the angle and individual. Some shots show this bird to be blue rather than turqoise.
Regards, Ivan

Ricardo

Welcome to TN Smitha... beautiful capture with excellent point of view to show this marvel of the nature.
The takeoff that is perceived on the diffuse bottom is really perfect.
The sharpness and the focus are good although exists something of loss of quality for the small size of the file... your image only has 38Kb. when TN allows 200Kb.
That impacts in the quality of the presentation distorting the colors and the clarity of the bird.
You could make a republication with a version of better quality, since the capture deserved.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo
