Weather conditions were sunny here. Thus the amount of light was no problem.
These animals are very alert; nevertheless there are moments they don't move for a while. The problem is often the eye; the sunlight angle has to be correct.
So the keeper ratio is quite low.
Here I was quite lucky with the teeth, it makes the picture a bit more extraordinary, I think.

The meerkat or suricate is a small mammal and a member of the mongoose family. It inhabits all parts of the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. A group of meerkats is called a "mob" or "gang".

Hello my friend!

Cool shot this is really good timing getting him looking a bit silly. Wonderful warm colour and contrast. You've got the depth of field spot on leaving us with the whole Meerkat is sharp all over and nicely textured in the coat.

My two niggles/critiques are this:
i) I think the composition could be improved by putting that space on the right to the left instead as that is the direction he is facing and would allow some breathing room.
ii) I'm not sure if this is just down to compression/PP but I can see a strange effect around the Meerkat about 2 cm deep, looks slightly speckled and noisy. Hard to see, but it caught my eye. Any ideas?

Regards
Simon

Amicalement Robi

Great pose and very good capture, very good details and very good quality.

Hello Annic,
So expressive mammal!
I like pose, compositoin and lit.
The sharpnessof mammal and blur of BG are good too.
Congratulations and TFS,
Serge

Well, at least he isn't snarling at me or at you. The expression adds so much to the image. It implies a story which always adds to the appeal of a photo. I read your response to Simon. I find that using an adjustment layer to blur the background works pretty well. I used to do all that intricate selecting and so often it doesn't look natural.

Great shot. Very unusual for a Meercat to show his teeth! Pin sharp and good contrast against the nice soft background. Composition perfect. You did really well with camera and lens hand held.

Hi Annick

Uuu..aren't we ferocious...:)))
Another terrific capture from you and another superb timing!
This pose you caught here is indeed extraordinary and it makes this photo stand out so well, even as a thumbnail :)
The techtalk is again fantastic, with excellent exposure and DOF, super sharp details and lovely natural colors.
I read your notes and i must say the in this case i can see what you mean with the catch-light in it eye...i belive if he had turnes his look towards you, the reflection would be a bit strong.
Anyway, a splendid post!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Annick.
Perfect captured moment of this excellent composed and expressive shot. I like the attractive pose of the animal and great DOF allowing to get sharp and excellently detailed image. BG is perfect too in its blurriness and richness of colours. My best wishes and TFS.

Hello Annick,
Excellent portrait.Colors, lighting,BG,sharpness, clear eyes and composition are wonderful.

Hi Annick,
Nice toothy look for your "vampire meerkat"..
You've discovered a new sub-species from the underworld? ;)
Well done mf.

Hi,
A very good potrait, I liked his agressive posture. The exposure and sharpness are good. The only nit is i feel is that the framing is bit tight ( but that's a personal choice )

Annick,
I like the textures here. The teeth are very well captured.
The catch-light in the eyes make it complete.
Well done,
Scott
