Probably not so impressive like Bicaz Canyon presented yesterday by Michal, and maybe not so amazing as Muddy Volcanoes near Buzau, but I believe this is still a very interesting place in Romania :)

But you will ask me: what is interesting in this picture? Lake, mountains, really nothing special...
Well, I agree that the photo is rather nothing special but the place is really amazing
:>

This is a crater lake Lake Sfânta Ana (=Lake of Saint Ann) which is localized in volcanic crater "Puciosul" in Mohoş Nature Reserve (Hargita county, Munţii Bodoc, Eastern Carpathians).
Long for 620 m and wide for 460 m the lake has about 19.5 ha with the maximum depth about 7 m.
This is the only volcanic lake in Romania.

But why "Lake of St. Ann"?

Well, the legend brings the answer ;>

Long, long time ago in a place where now the lake is localized there was a fortness, really huge and very impressive. And about 1 hour trip from it there was another one. They belonged to two brothers. They were very cruel and greedy men. All they wanted was more and more gold.

Once upon a time this area was visited by very rich lord. He came here with a golden carriage with six great horses.

One of the greedy brothers really wanted to buy the carriage and horses but he did not have enouth money. So he asked the lord: maybe we will dice about it? He was lucky and kept all his money and won the carriage.

The day after he visited his brother to show him a treasure. Of course his brother was furious when he saw gold carriage with horses. He wanted to be "the best" and said: "tomorrow I'll have a better one but not with 6 but with 12 horses!"

Soon after he ordered to his people to bring to him the most beautiful girls from the village. Twelve of them were chosen and among them the beauty Ana. They were geared as horses to the carriage with the orded to drive him to his brother. But is was not possible -they were to week to do it. This made a master very mad. He beated Ana to the blood... She was crying but she asked heaven for help.

Suddenly sky changed colour to black, lightings appeared and the groud started to move. In a few minutes the fortness dissapeared in a huge hole where now the lake is placed.

And what about lake's waters? Well, they are from the girls' tears.
Under the water dissapeared a bad man, his carriage and all gold, while all girls were free :)

Presently there is chapel on the lake side - the chapel of St. Ana :)

Hi Radomir
Even if it was not a volcanic crater it is really an amazing and beautiful place! Knowing that it is a crater adds even more interest and curiosity.
The shot is excellent with a wonderful sharpness and composition.
My compliments and TFS.

Hi Radomir,
Great composition with the rock in the foreground which makes the photo work. The beautiful greens and the tranquil water tell us that it's indeed a special place. Thanks for telling us about the legend, too.
Best wishes,
Hakan

Hej,

Me gusta mucho.. gracias.
Ricardo

Aesthetic capture dear friend with excellent point of view, locating the great rock in forefront and a correct framing with the forest reflected on the water, the imposing blue sky as the best background possible.
I like it a lot.. thank you.

Hi Radomir.
BRAVO. Hold choice of POV and pictured scene. Amazing lighting and richness of colours. Great details of all subjects and reflections at the water. Nice line of tree tops and lakeside. Very impressive old stump. Very nice note but I don't agree with its first part. My compliments and TFS.

Hello Radomir,
Wonderful peaceful scene far away from snow and blizzards! Excellent depth of focus, sharpness and colours. Lovely story!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Nice shot Radomir,

Beautiful warm colours and great composition. Really clear image with detail from the rock at the front to the trees in the background. Effective frame (I liked it so much I have decided to copy it and start using similar on my photos!)
Not sure the people in the background are quite fitting in the scene.

Regards
Simon

Hi Radomir,

According to this landscape picture, there are great places in Romania. In Israel we just dream on lakes like that.
Great picture.

Bonjour Rodomir
C'est une très belle composition que tu as faites sur ce beau paysage. Les couleurs et les détails sont réussis. J'aime bien l'atmosphère qui s'en dégage.C'est au pied de ces rochers que les personnes devraient pêcher.
Bravo et merci....JP

Hi!

very beautiful photo! I was there while I was student and the professors from the University were telling us about the vegetation changes due to termic inversions. And in this picture is visible that the spruce is on lower level while the beech is on the highest one (is the first thing that gets in my mind when hear about St.Ana lake)...and i must confess i didn't know the story :(

Elena

Pozdrowienia
Ania

Hello Radomir,

Would you believe I have never been at Sfanta Ana lake although I live relatively close? Your picture makes me think about planning a trip to this beautiful place.
I like your composition and the way you used different objects to enhance perspective. This foreground-middleground -background arrangement is very efficient! I wonder where did you focus? On the rock in the foreground? The distant shore is very well placed and the high horizon line is excellent for presenting what's below (the lake).
The colors are natural and well saturated and now I realize how much I miss the summer (although I'm a winter sports lover). The excellent exposure and light control rendered a superb landscape with great contrast and beautiful color tones. Very appropriate frame and useful notes! Congratulations and TFS!

With Friendly Regards,
Eddie

Hi Radomir

Another beautiful part of my country that i am yet to see!
You (ad Michal) really managed to bring out the best of what is to be found here!
Sf. Ana is indeed a unique place in Romania and i defiantely want to go there one day. Until then, i'm left with this beautiful picture of yours ;)
The composition here is splendid and the view outstanding. You did great to keep interest to both the FG and the BG, with lovely and well saturated tones and colors everywhere.
Very nice details throughout the entire frame, as well.

Cheers and TFS

Beautiful capture, Radomir!
The lights are great, and so are the colours!
Trully a postcard..

Hi again Radomir,

Here's a good example of a strong FG. This rock creates a good dimension to the landscape. Watch out for unknown shadow in the picture (as seen on the lower-left). Too bad for the people also (sorry, I am a purist when nature photo is concerned). Good warm tones and DOF.

PC :)

Hi Radomir,

Yes it's really like a postcard, excellent shot with crystal clear water in the foreground. The view is so breathtaking and relaxing, the stone in the foreground corner make the bracketing perfect. It's look like petrified/sillicified woods for me, support the idea of volcanic crater origin. Thanks for the notes and the legend about St. Ann, hope I could step my foot there someday :)

Hi,
Very nice shot.
The color and composition are exelent.
Well done!
My best regards,
Iulian

Hi Radomir,

Thats my picture. What a wonderful shot. The shadow in the water. The POV and BG are perfect. Only the shadow of the person in the water(you maybe (-:) it's a little bit disturbing. Regards and TFS Bob

absolutely stunning image, well done. very interesting detail in the foreground rock, and still great colours and detail in the trees. great!
