This is another shot taken directly behind South Falls previous post in Silver Falls State Park... an hour from my home in Oregon.

SILVER FALLS STATE PARK: OREGON

It's kind of an oasis, even amidst the already scenic farmlands, rolling hills and lush forests of the eastern Willamette Valley. Silver Falls State Park literally overflows with a variety of splendid waterfalls, trails, fascinating rock formations and greenery, all situated right in the middle of some beautifully varied landscape.

It's the cool, green, rain-forest-like atmosphere that hits you as you approach this 8,700-acre state park with more than 21 miles of trails designed for hiking, biking, horse riding and of course, viewing.

Interestingly enough, you wouldn't have thought much about the beauty of this placid place 16 million years ago. Then, enormous lava flows from eruptions as far away as Idaho pushed their way into the Salem area, eventually reaching the sea. Yet it's that kind of volcanic destruction that ultimately created the beauty of the park. As each new lava flow cooled, it gave birth to new rock layers called basalt. These basalt formations were eventually cut into their present-day pathways by the various streams in the area, and then into the 11 waterfalls that are contained within Silver Falls State Park.

Hi Evelynn.
Vey nice shot. Harmony of atmosphere, colours, lightning.
Well done. tfs. Stev

Hi Evelyn,
Very appropiate the name of the picture!
I like so much this ice formations catched, with and excellent POV.
The light reflections on the ice makes it so bright and very contrasting with the dark background.
You took really good advantaje of the long ice formations -like stalactites- to make this great vertical composition.
Congratulations and thanks for share.
My best regards,
JM

Very cool shot and perspective Evelynn! I love creating images around frozen waterfalls as well as there can be so many interesting ice formations caused by the spray.

These "ice blossoms" are just gorgeous, Evelynn.
Well seen and well captured.
Those globby shapes are fascinating.
I wonder what the physics of freezing are, and how they determine the final shapes. Their juxtaposition with the slim straight icicles makes for an interesting composition.

Hi Evelynn,
Very cool photo with the iciles and the frozen plants. I like the title, too. Exposure and sharpness are excellent. But I wish you didn't have to shoot wide open. Very well done otherwise.
