[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
On one of our first morning drives on the H2-2 we met this couple of hyenas obstructing the road,as it was still a bit on the dark side I used iso 400 as setting (probably iso 200 would have worked as well as I used a beanbag, but I was too exited to think about it),the hyena's often lay alongside the road we saw them a few times even with big goups with cubs.

Spotted Hyena
Hyena are social, living in clans, headed by a large matriarch. They are predominantly nocturnial, and although renownedscavengers, are also highly effective preditors.Their distinctive "whooooo-oop" call can be heard at night.

Shot this picture from a car using a beanbag as stabilization, cropped and sharpened

Hope you like it and TFW

Hi paul,
Even though the light was not favourable for you, you 've got a nice picture. My daughter has always wanted to see a live hyena as she is an ardent lover of lion king. She says your hyena doesn't look half bad as those in her movie. She says she liked it a lot.:)
regards,
Smitha.

Ha Paul,

Deze hyena lijkt me erg nieuwsgierig. Waarschijnlijk is hij ook banger voor jou dan jij voor hem! Mooi plaatje van een indrukwekkende rover.

groet,
Zeno.

Hello Paul,
The only hyenas I've seen were in zoos. It must be a fantastic experience to see them by the roadside. This is a fine sharp and well-composed shot and the one in focus stares nicely at the camera.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Hi Paul,
Nice composition. Sharp and crisp clear picture. Great exposure and color saturation. Feeling that they are not so friendly. Regards,
JC

Hello Paul,

These really are ugly animals, But your photo is not at all, well composed and captured photo excllent Job

Sometimes you just have to shoot fast and not play with settings. Nothing wrong with 400 ISO. Details are strinking.
Light and colors are wonderful. The hyena appears so clerly against the background.
The unfocused hyena behind is a real plus.
Excellent composition.
A masterpiece.

Hi Paul

Lovely shot - you have really captured the 'lurking' character of the hyena here.

Hi Paul, this is a wow, wow shot! I like the light and the moody feel of these wild dogs (are they dogs?). This is a great moment and the foreground Hyena is perfectly focused and is as sharp as it shoud be. I can almost smell the heat and dust in this shot. Excellent all round and good work.
