(2454) [2008-10-19 16:05:14] [3] | Using Photoshop Elements, first I cropped the image to reduce the amount of white background, then sharpened quite heavily using the USM. Lastly, reduced some noise in the background using the blur tool.

(2454) [2008-10-17 15:54:49] [2] | Using Photoshop Elements I made a small adjustment to Levels and also reduced the brightness and upped the contrast a little. The brown still looked a bit pale compared to these insects in real life so I added a small amount of saturation in the red channel. This looks to me more how I remember this species from field sightings.

(2454) [2008-10-16 08:55:09] [1] | Using Photoshop Elements, I applied the Unsharp Mask at 175/0.6/2 to bring out the details in the wings a bit more. I hope you like it.

 Noise/Blur | accassidy
(2454) [2008-10-14 10:44:33] [1] | I used the blur tool in Photoshop to reduce the background noise on the left and top of the picture. I left it as it was on the right and below the butterfly. You can also see the difference where I ran over the frame margin as I blurred that as well just to show my foot prints. This helps to remove noise that sometimes occurs in backgrounds after sharpening.

 Blur for Noise | accassidy
(2454) [2008-10-07 03:22:02] [1] | Have used Blur Tool at 70% on the BG to the left side of the plant, but left the right side untouched for comparison. Certainly I could see an improvement on the editing screen. I also just brightened it a little (+20). Alan |

 Sharpening | accassidy
(2454) [2008-10-01 11:56:34] | In response to a couple of comments received, I have sharpened this picture rather more than originally. I'm not sure if this is now too much. What do you think?

(2454) [2008-09-24 05:44:51] | Cut the grasshopper and hand using the Magnetic Lassoo Tool then erased the BG and coloured it with low-saturation pale green. Helps the eye to concentrate on the subject not the background. |
