Firstly - as our guide said - all this formation, I mean all big salty hill was pushed out of ground [from depth of many meters] by geological process including work done by underground waters. How long it lasts? I don't know. Secondly - patters. Patterns are probably effects of erosion, mainly from rain I think. Remember? This hill is made from very hard and dense salt but salt is very water soluble. So in relatively short time [in geological scale] rain eroded this patterns.
