As you have been to India - I can safely presume that you know the tilt of Indian psyche towards colours - both thick and deep to light ones. I can understand how it might have looked to you - a little garish - I guess. Most of the tourists have no idea of what to wear or how to talk inside a forest. A large fraction of them are either honeymooners or age old folks - who try to seduce the tiger (or tigress - depending on the case) with their bridal (or groom-al) outfit, literally.
To my horror, I saw my wife (I too was honeymooning) was wearing a pink top on that very day. I did not pay heed to this, before. But, as a self backpatting - I always wear natural shades with subdued colouration, whenever I go to a natural reserve.
