To marhowie: point & shoot is better at pulling inpeter_stoeckl::2006-07-19 16:33
Hi Howard,
thank you for your very positive and encouraging critique for my attempt of merging macro with landscape. You are certainly right that pulling in BG is one of the strong points of a compact camera. With a significantly smaller sensor chip there comes a significantly smaller optical system with a focal length of 6mm in wideangle. There must be a better depth of field at 6mm than with 24mm of a classical full size chip dSLR.
On the other hand, the Sony DSC-H5 does not deserve to be called a "point & shoot" - with its manually adjustable features just as numerous as with most dSLRs I know, plus precision optics made by Carl Zeiss.
"Shooting b-flies in the texas heat" - I guess I might have an idea of how that feels. Here in Vienna, we had plus 35C this afternoon, and more to come these days.
By the way, I like the new photo in our intro that shows you with your daughter in law. Both of you are very attractive people, indeed!
Have a very good day! Best regards,
Peter
