it must be the Silver spotted skipper indeed. Your help is appreciated, thank you very much. And after reading up on the species the memory comes back: I found it on our Wisteria. I wonder how you discovered it; of course I realize you are a good entomologist, but this is a North American species...

Actually, it wasn't too difficult to find out since many caterpillars of skippers have very typical appearance that's easy to recognize. All you need then is to decide which specific species from Texas it can be...
