Hi John,
No problem. The D200 is a bit of a beast to get to terms with...I'm still trying. For what it's worth this is how I shoot birdlife.

1. Still birds...like your shot.
- CH frame rate with focus priority release
- Single Servo AF
- Normal AF width
- Focus on the birds eye then re-compose and fire off a few frames.

2. Moving birds - pirched or on the ground
- CH frame rate with focus release
- Continuous Servo AF
- Normal AF width
- Try to keep the appropriate AF sensor on the eye/head, ths may mean using the joystick to toggle the AF selector

3. In flights
- CH frame rate with focus release
- Continuous Servo AF
- Normal AF width
- Group dynamic pattern - this is one of the fastest AF modes and allow for coninous tracking towards and cross the camera frame. Usually have it set up for the centre AF group and have it select the centre AF sensor.
- I also use this setup for motorsport but can flick the frame rate to shutter release priority as casr are a little more predictable than birds to track.

Cheers
