A Couple of New Features adam (0)::2005-01-04 3:01
TrekNature has been mostly synced up to the other trek sites so now the Lists feature is available, which allows one to group photographers, critiquers and workshoppers together in one's private groups. Note the 'My Lists' section on the left hand section on every page.

A Scavenger Hunt feature has also been added, but there are currently no hunts. If there is enough interest one can be added at anytime.

Also, browsing genres etc should be quite a bit faster I believe.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I'll do it and if I can't get an answer, I'll try in other forum sections too.
So here are my sugestions:
1). I've seen a lot of beautiful pictures representing rock formations or fossils or raw minerals that are hard to fit in one of the categories that exist now. And since is ra required field, I had to put myself one of this on the Landscapes category, that being the closest thing to the subject! How about a new genre called Mineral or Geology or something like that (of course with some apropriate categories)

2). speaking of categories, I think a "Temperate forest" category would be also wellcomed. I think the ecological area and importance of temperate forest worldwide deserves a category for its own. I saw different pictures taken in Temperate forest that have been placed in other categories wher doesn't belong. (Like photos from forest of Belgium, Germany, France in Rainforest category!)

I hope my sugestions are helpful and is not to hard to implement (if is the case).

Regards, Petru Damsa

I have noticed the Savenger Hunt feature and wondered how it worked. Can you explain it for me please? Scavenger Hunts are always fun, and I for one would love to try one on this site.

Hi, Adam!
I have been waiting patiently for a Savenger Hunt to begin. Then I noticed on Trek Lens that you wait for members to make suggestions for Hunt topics. So I thought I would offer a few ideas, some seasonal, some not. :o)

Fractal patterns in nature
Symmetry
Rebirth
First wildflowers of spring
Spring melt and/or Winter Run-off
Magical light
Mist-ical
Silhouettes
Quotations

If I think of more I will add them later. I hope more people will take an interest in this.

I'm interested in doing a scavenger hunt. I think the themes posted earlier were all good. Since fall is coming here, I want to suggest maybe the First Signs of Fall, I dunno, just an idea.

The problem with seasonal hunts is that they're rather unfair to those in the wrong hemisphere - it's just coming to autumn/fall here in the UK - but in Australia/NZ etc they're just moving to spring.

Hi,
I work as a Software Test Engineer. I do have a suggestion here. Hope it would make easy surfing in Forum section. Can we provide a linkof the Subject line above which will take us t the page where the subjects are listed? What happens now is that if we read some replies, we have to click 'Forum' links on the left hand side to go the lists. If I am on Page No. 4 , I have to go to first page and then again click '4' link to go to it. By providing link o the Subject line , i can direstly go to page 4.
Pleas have a thought.

regards
Mahesh

That's great news Adam. Where can we find documentation on how to use Lists? I have tried to use them; here since the availability, and on TE previously. But options and features are not intuitive. So I have not been able to use 'em for what I think they were intended for. AND - perhaps this is my failing - I have not been able to find any documentation or clarification.

So I will appreciate some pointers. Thanx in advance. Jay

Jay,
What do you want to do with "My List" I have on on TN, so maybe I can be of some help.

Ah great!

I have set up list called "ContactsPhotos", and had hoped that I could enter the handles of people whose photos I can link to, or be "warned about"...

The only thing I have managed to do is
a) create the list,
b) to enter my own handle...

Thanx in advance Nick for your help! Appreciated! ;j.

Go to the persons intro page. Next to their handle you can find the option to add to your list. Where you can also find the option to add a person as your favorite.

I hope it helps.

FAN-effin-TASTIC Niek!

After a bit of screwing around I did figure out what U meant!

And of course I had seen - by then - that you have a list in your INTRO.

Many thanx! REALLY appreciate it! J.

PS
It seems a strange way to trek < for these lists >, but once one has a roadmap, it's a piece of cake. < If only we could get documentation on the system, eh. ... >

It is also possible to subscribe to somebodies list, but that will means that the person adds a link to his/her list in the intro page, as I did for mine.

I am glad I could be of help.
