Hi Annick,
thank you for your positive critique!
DOF wonder at F4?
Not really. The much shorter focal length of recent compact camera models provides us with a much longer depth of field than the full size 35mm cameras we are used to. Well, this kind of extended DOF is not always a pleasure when making macros in front of a busy BG, but at full tele setting of the integrated Zeiss 12x zoom lens it seems to work quite well.
So in most cases with reasonably flat areas of interest I do not mind wide open aperture settings but even appreciate them for a better set off against BG, unless I definitely want to have both foreground and background sharp at wideangle images.
By the way, the Sony DSC-H5 does have a lot of merits, but I had to discover one serious flaw: well visible chromatic aberrations adding green and purple borders to bright contours at some lense settings. You may even see them in this downsized image if you enlarge it and look at the upper blossom. I have not tried out yet if that kind of misery gets better by smaller aperture or not, but for sure I will.
Best regards,
Peter
