|Yes, this nurseryweb does run across the surface of ponds etc. I have a copy of Powells 'Native Animals of New Zealand (a classic piece of Kiwiana), the Auckland museum handbook of zoology,first printed in 1947. In it they describe other species of Dolomedes that will even hunt underwater. THey can enter either salt or fresh water by pulling themselves down a partially submerged reed or branch.They can span up to 3" in diameter and have been known to kill small fish. This all sounds fascinating,but they fail to mention whether or not these are New Zealand species.
