Hello Bob,
The Piha is always jammed with surfers and beach goers especially in the summer time, there will be more life guards petrolling the beaches!
there will particularly put two signs for the save area to swim, so everyone must swim within the area for own personal safety reason! may be because of the strong waves and quick moving sand in certain area!
