It provides the opportunity for experienced based learning to students I the fields of biology, history, geology, ornithology, cultural diversity, wildlife studies, socioeconomics and entomology. Looted along the Vaal River it is a 3000 acre wildlife reserve. With more than 300 species of birds and 800 native plants it provides the ultimate learning experience.

The Savannah Africa is the focus of activities carried out by the Savannah Foundation. Established in 1995, the Foundation is dedicated to the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. The Savannah is a government recognized and fully authorized nature, game and wildlife sanctuary, is a registered Nature Conservancy, a member of the Animal Rehabilitation Council and a member of the Wild Water Conservancy.

The Savannah Education Center opened in 2002 as a high school, university and adult experience centered seminar facility. At the Savannah, the mountain, gorges, waters and forests are the classrooms.

Students explore the dynamic between two essential aspects of human life in South Africa: the necessity of commercial and industrial development in a developing economy and the necessity of preserving the biodiversity of Africa.

Students also learn about South Africa’s struggle for democracy. Local leaders facilitate discussions, answer questions and relate their personal stories.

Thanx Pieter, Estelle and Ilse.
