The Emerald resort make its presence know on the lush shores of the Vaal River. Less than an hours drive from Johannesburg.

Presenting a curios mixture of business combined with pleasure and action with relaxtation.

I was particularly impressed with the animal park they have. Most of the animals in the park are not kept like normal Zoo's. They are held in larger enclosures sort of like smal game camps. There are a variety of animals most very easy to photograph up close. One can enter the aviary were a lovely variety of excotic ane indigenous birds can be photographed. The birds are very tame and get real close. Entrance fee to the park is ZAR 20 for an adult and the game drive is ZAR 35 per adult. The game drive takes an hour and gets you real close to local mammals. Tip the driver to take his time and get of the main roads for that special photo's. Of the big five they have three lions. But other well worth seeing are wild dogs, cheetah, hippo's and some exotic antelope species. There are not a lot of people around. I saw some bird hideouts close to small dams. The driver told me it can be arranged to spent time out there by yourselve. All and all a nice day, I did enjoy it and did not feel ripped of by the prices. One note though, if you plan to stay for some time bring you own food. I would not recommend the food supplied by the Cafe.
