Feeding frenzy at the weir of the water treatment plant on the Oldman River in Lethbridge. About 35 Pelicans have made their home on these waters and feed on the fish jumping the weir. They drift down river on the strong current, then fly back up again for more fish. Additional pics on TL here and here.
These are American White Pelicans. Notice the protrusion on the beak: they grow these during breeding season.
Cropped from a larger picture, color and contrast adjust and downsized.

Hi Otto,
Great action shot on these White Pelicans. A good exposure has great looking colors and nice detail. Right now there are thousands of them along the Mississippi River here on there way back north.

terrific action shot, otto! :-)
what a hungry bunch of pelicans.
and again, this ain´t florida, amazing to see them up "north", is this because we´re fu**ing up the climate?
anayway, great capture, amazing turbulent waters, wonderful details and perfectly handled exposure on the white birds.

thanks for your comments on my photo " Spring Wildflowers (32) " :o)

Hi Otto,
that is a most exciting meeting of birds. The dramatic motion is perfectly accentuated by powerful light. Colours and details are just perfect, and the composition is classically well built like on a renaissance painting. This is an excellent shot. My congratulations!
With best regards from Vienna to Alberta.
Cheers, Peter
